Twenty-five students from Wykham Park Year 9 came to the new Studio in Futures to try out our Core Project working style. These students are considering joining us in 2022. Five of the current Futures’ Year 9 acted as facilitators and the five teams worked on an Intermediate Technology engineering task.
The Squashed Tomato challenge introduces students to the challenges facing tomato farmers in Nepal with their need to get tomatoes down the mountain to market. UN sustainability goals are used as background to the challenge with emphasis on why farmers need a cash crop to access education and avoid poverty.
The students soon got into the practise of teamworking to develop an ingenious solution. Transport for the tomatoes was organised and designs were tested and altered. All the teams successfully transported tomatoes!
