Five students from Wykham Park Sixth Form participated in a press conference held by Aston Martin to mark of International Women in Engineering Day (INWED). The event, aimed at celebrating and promoting the contributions of women in the engineering field, featured a diverse panel of female engineers who shared their personal journeys and the challenges they overcame.
The panel included women from various backgrounds, each shedding light on their unique experiences in the traditionally male-dominated field of engineering. They spoke about the obstacles they faced and the perseverance required to succeed. INWED gives women engineers around the world a profile when they are still hugely under-represented, with 2021 figures indicating that in the UK only 16.5% of engineers are women. The insights offered by the panellists served as both inspiration and a call to action for greater gender diversity in the industry.
The Wykham Park students, aspiring engineers themselves, found the event enlightening and motivational. They had the opportunity to engage with the panellists, asking questions and gaining valuable insights into potential career paths.
This press conference not only highlighted the achievements of women in engineering but also underscored the importance of support and mentorship for the next generation of female engineers.
