Futures Year 10 students went to Portsmouth as part of their latest Core Project challenge. Year 10 have been using INEOS resources to study the materials used in the America’s Cup Challenge Yacht. They have been considering modern materials and the development of naval design. The trip to Portsmouth allowed them to see the Mary Rose and the Victory up close and it was perfect timing to see HMS Queen Elizabeth (a 65,000 tonne aircraft carrier) return to port after 7 months at sea. A range of 500 years in ship design!
The students had the chance to visit the beach and stand where Henry VIII stood when the Mary Rose sank. They went into SouthSea Castle then to the Historic Dockyard. In the Mary Rose museum they toured the amazing display and participated in a science workshop. The staff at the Mary Rose were impressed with their team working skills and response to the science challenge.
